Bernard Slede is Managing Partner at Breakthrough Venture Partners, a Silicon Valley-based firm that focuses on monetizing innovation for technology companies and on supplementing the innovation abilities and capabilities of large corporations, helping them bridge their innovation gaps including by developing ecosystems.
Mr. Slede has been a successful agent of change and positive disruption throughout the innovation ecosystem, both as an entrepreneur and a corporate innovation leader:
On the startup side:
o He was the startup founder and CEO of high tech and business services, and is also an Advisory Board member to a number of successful startup companies in the US and internationally
o He has also been involved in many successful patent transactions
o He co-organized Incubate 2.0 in Cupertino, California
o Mr. Slede is also one of Startup America’s top 5 individual Champions.
On the corporate innovation side:
o At HP, the original “Garage” company, he founded the Startup Ecosystem Programs and HP Startup Central and orchestrated the interactions with emerging high growth companies and their stakeholders. He was a key member of the Corporate Venture Capital team, managing the portfolio of equity investments in startups
o At Technology Ventures Corporation, a Lockheed Martin entity, he was a top performer helping startups commercialize technology and raise funds
o At Intel Corporation, Mr.Slede created a partner community for a new business group marketing Internet appliance systems. He then was hired by a venture capital-backed software startup to drive business development and industry alliances.
o At European media leader Group RTL, he led the investment in – and became a member of the Board of – the first European pay-per-view television service. He also created, headed and spun off their pay TV business, which led to the launch of TPS (1 million satellite subscribers).
o At energy company Elf Aquitaine, he was part of the venture capital team in Paris and Stamford, Connecticut
Mr. Slede is a graduate of Paris’ HEC School of Management and the International Management Program at ESADE (Barcelona) and McGill University (Montreal).
