Overview
The WBTshowcase is the premiere event showcasing the world's largest collection of cutting-edge, first-to-market technologies before leading seed investors and Fortune 500 licensees.
Mission Statement
The WBT facilitates the movement of breakthrough technologies from top universities, federal laboratories, federal agencies and leading research institutions into the marketplace by leveraging industry professionals in a disciplined manner and unbiased environment.
What types of Technologies Qualify?
Submissions range from pure or idea-stage technologies still in the lab to startup companies that meet the following criteria:
- “Platform technology” – could spawn many products
- “Close to market” – few barriers remain for commercial application
- “First in the space” – could create a whole new industry
Who Should Apply?
- Researchers and research institutions seeking to license or commercialize advanced technologies.
- Enterprises or businesses with advanced, proprietary technology seeking seed stage venture capital.
How Many Technologist are Selected?
- Up to 75 technologies. All selected receive exhibit space and the opportunity to make a 6-minute investor-oriented presentation.
- All selected presenters are coached by Mentor teams comprised of investors, licensees and/or tech commercialization experts.
How Can I Apply?
- Complete an on-line two-three page summary application.
- There’s no cost to apply.

- A breakdown of previous years including WBT02 through WBT07 presenting technologies reflects a cross-section industry sectors

Each year over 400 participants attend the World’s Best Technologies Showcase.
The audience can be broken down into the following sectors (based on total attendees from WBT02, WBT04, WBT05, and WBT06):
Of the 402 total identified investors/licensee who have attended in previous years (WBT02, WBT04, WBT05, and WBT06) 353 are bonafide Venture Capitalist and Fortune 500 licensing scouts with committed funds. With investors and licensees making up almost half of the audience (
not presenting a technology) selected exhibitors can expect roughly 1 out of every 2 participants entering his or her exhibit booth will be a bonafide investor or Fortune 500 licensee.
