IC2 Student Commercialization Plan Competition -- March 15-17, 2010
The WBTshowcase is proud to partner with the
IC˛ Institute at the University of Texas - Austin to give university
business students the opportunity to perfect their pitch with an audience of WBT attendees.
To participate, please email a letter of intent to gcadenhead@ic2.utexas.edu by February 12th. Please include a brief description of the technology and a list of the students involved. Two teams from your university may enter. Business plans must be submitted electronically by March 8th.
About the Competition
The 3rd Annual IC˛ & WBT University Technology Commercialization Competition in Arlington, Texas March 15-17, 2010 encourages graduate students to commercialize technologies developed at their universities and to facilitate the resulting new ventures obtaining funding.
This Competition differs from other business plan competitions in several important ways:
- The basis for the new ventures must be a technology developed at a university.
- The teams presenting will be committed to launching their ventures.
- Each team will be required to include at least one graduate student.
- Universities from across the United States will be invited to send teams.
The winner will receive an invitation to the Global MOOT CORP Competition in Austin in May 5-8, 2010.
The IC˛ Student Commercialization Plan Competition is collocated with the WBTshowcase offering many advantages:
- Investors focusing on university technology commercialization will be in attendance and are likely to observe the Competition.
- Some of these investors will be judges for the Competition.
- Competitors get a complimentary 2-day pass to the WBTshowcase.
Agenda
Here are some of the features of the Competition:
- March 15: Elevator Pitch Competition Student teams will showcase their technologies during the evening reception on March 15th, and each team will give a one minute pitch. The winner will take home $500.
- March 16: Opening Round All teams will present during the morning of March 16th in Divisions of four teams each. The winner of each Division will advance.
- March 17: Finals The finalists will compete before a different panel of judges during the morning of March 17th. The winner will be announced at the WBTshowcase luncheon.
- Prizes:The winner will receive a cash award of $8,000 and an invitation to the world renowned Global MOOT CORP® Competition at The University of Texas at Austin in May. The first runner-up will receive $1,000.
All members of the competing teams must be enrolled students at their respective universities, and at least one of the students on each team must be a graduate student. The basis for the new ventures must be technologies developed at the participating universities, either by students or faculty. Ideally, each team will be accompanied by a faculty adviser and a representative of the university’s office of technology commercialization.
Teams may make lodging arrangements at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel.

Learn and network with the pros
Competing teams are encouraged to attend the Monday training course "Commercializing Technology through the power of IP licensing" offered by the Licensing Executives Society (USA and Canada). The course begins at 8:30am and ends at 5:30pm on March 15, 2010, and includes lunch. The course is offered to students for only $35.
