When Nano meets Neuro: Dr. Mihail Roco to speak on global tech competitiveness at WBT09
February 4, 2009 | Arlington, TX – Mihail Roco says that America must embrace a new technological reality of “convergent technologies” to sustain its economic competitiveness. But as the National Science Foundation’s Senior Advisor for Nanotechnology, Dr. Roco also knows that adapting to this multidisciplinary world will challenge many American companies.
“Convergence is a process of integrating knowledge to create new products,“ said Dr. Roco, who is also the founding chair of the US National Science and Technology Council’s subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering and Technology.
“Clusters of expertise are the future of technology – molecular medicine, pharmaceutical genome, self-assembling materials from nanoscale, and digital and cyber infrastructure, for example.”
As a speaker at the upcoming 2009 WBTshowcase (WBT09) the prestigious global investment and licensing forum, Dr. Roco will share his ideas on trends and opportunities in convergent technology.
“I see a future where emerging fields in nanotech, biotech, cognitive and neuroscience, IT, etc., will lead to significant technological advances,” he said. “The challenge is for industries to adapt to this.”
Last year’s WBTshowcase brought together over 450 venture investors, Fortune 1000 licensees, industry professionals and technology transfer professionals to network and hear presentations.
