WBT Innovation Showcasing Technology from Across the Country

The ninth annual World's Best Technology Innovation Forum will offer a collection of undiscovered companies and intellectual property from top universities, labs, and research institutions from across the country beginning March 21 at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel in Arlington.

Sponsored by Lockheed Martin, the presenting companies have been hand-picked and mentored and the intellectual proprieties are the top picks form participation federal labs and universities, said Patti D. Hill, founder and managing principal of Penman PR Inc.

According to WBT statistics, $490 million has been raised for market-ready innovative technologies and those who want to invest in those technologies.

"One indicator of success is the deals made," Hill said.

Two new sessions this year are Fedmarketplace@WBT and UniversitySquare@WBT. Both sessions will included technology presentations, IP listings, and provide venues. Participants can showcase research and partnering capabilities to public and private sector dealmakers including Austin Ventures, AstraZeneca, Trident Capital, NIST, Boeing, NASA, Microsoft, Sevin Rosen Funds, Dow Chemical and many others.

The sessions offer tech transfer professionals, researchers, supported companies and opportunities to connect with Fortune 1000 licensees and venture capital investors, Hill said.

In addition to bringing the technology event to the area, WBT Innovation Marketplace is the flagship event for the newly organized Technology Commercialization and Manufacturing organization, or TechComm.

TechComm will be the point organization for technology transfer for an eight-state region, and will provide access to representatives from seven federal agencies and 300 federal labs that spend more than $100 billion annually on research that has resulted in more than 10,000 patented technologies and licenses.

The seven agencies aligning with TechComm are US Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Agriculture, Transportation, and National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Standards and Technology, and NASA.

An affiliate of the Center for Innovation at Arlington, TechComm will officially launch at WBT2011 as a hub for moving federal laboratory research results and technologies into the mainstream U.S. economy, Hill said.

Presentations at the seminar will include Applied Ventures, Microsoft, Dow Chemical, Sante Ventures, Lockheed Martin, Battelle Ventures, McKesson, Merck, Hewlett-Packard, and many more.

WBT Innovation Marketplace has chosen more than 70 investment ready startups, spinouts and licensing opportunities in materials science, information technology, energy, life science, and nanotechnology companies and technologies to present during the forum.
